Earth hour 2010

Earth Hour is a WWF initiative where we can show our support for action on climate change by turning off your lights for one hour.

WWF’s Earth Hour is an inspiring message of hope and action – a global demonstration about climate change. At 8.30pm on 27 March 2010, over 4000 cities and towns across the world will turn off their lights for one hour – Earth Hour – sending a powerful message that it’s possible to take action on global warming Earth Hour 2009 was hugely successful, reaching millions of people across the world.

India participated in Earth hour 2009 with 5 million Indians in 56 cities switching off their lights and engaging over 600000 students .This venture for the first time in India led to 1000MW of power being saved during the Earth hour.

Hundreds of educational institutions including IITs, IIMs, MICA, Jamia Milia Islamia, JNU among several youth groups, community organizations and religious groups took part in 2009.

Earth Hour 2010 in Coimbatore is not beyond the bounds of possibility. With the help of the Government Officials, Kumaraguru College of technology(KCT) have initiated the campaign for this year. With the support of few NGO’s in Coimbatore the plans for the event have been launched.

Earth Hour 2010 needs to be made even bigger and better which can be done only with the voluntary act of all the organizations in Coimbatore. Students with the passion towards saving the Nature are most welcome to get themselves involved in this endeavor.

This event is for everyone who is willing to make a small contribution for the planet we live on , this campaign needs your commitment – so put the date in your diary and get ready for Earth Hour 2010.

In this regard ,KCT has organized a press meet on 20th March 2010 in Corporation Kalai Arangam from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm to discuss the issues of making Earth hour 2010 a public campaign.The support of the students of your Institute will eminently endorse WWF to make Earth Hour 2010 a success. With your Institution’s students joining in for this mission can be the moment to take action on the impending threat of Global Warming.
